# Oracle EBS AI
 Alternatives Compared

The honest question for an EBS team is not which tool wins. It is which parts of what you buy now get written off at cutover.

      Key takeaways

- Most EBS finance teams run a long lived customised instance with a cloud decision on the horizon, and the honest question is what gets written off at cutover.
- Finance workflow, exception rules and document extraction survive a move. The ledger read path does not, and anything built on forms is written off.
- RPA over forms is riskier on EBS than elsewhere because forms are customised per instance and a recorded sequence is written against one configuration.
- EBS names the reason on every hold, which is more than most ERPs give you, and most tools do not aggregate it.
- Ask for the AutoInvoice rejection backlog as a revenue number. A tool treating it as a technical log is reading it the wrong way.

Comparing AI tools for Oracle EBS finance is shaped by one fact: most instances are long lived, heavily customised, and running while a cloud decision sits somewhere ahead. That makes the useful question not which product wins but which parts of what you buy now survive a cutover, and the answer is most of it except the read path and anything built on forms.

This page ranks no products and makes no claim about any vendor's features or pricing. It gives you the migration frame, the category map, five tests you can run on your own records, and the conditions under which the answer is not yet. ChatFin is an agent layer and every test here applies to it.

## EBS instances are old, customised and heading somewhere

Most EBS finance teams are running a long lived, heavily customised instance while a cloud decision sits on the horizon. ChatFin's view is that this changes the evaluation more than any feature comparison does, because the honest question is what gets written off. ChatFin gets asked it in almost every EBS conversation, and the answer below is the same one we give whether or not ChatFin is the tool you choose.

| Layer | Survives a move to cloud | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Finance workflow and approval routing | Yes | It describes how your team works |
| Exception rules and tolerances | Yes | Your policy, held outside the ERP |
| Document extraction and supplier resolution | Yes | Works on documents and master data |
| The ledger read path | No | Table and interface names differ |
| Anything built on EBS forms | No | This is the part that breaks |
| Custom PL/SQL in the posting path | Depends | Each one is a scoping question |

The read path is the only genuinely temporary layer, which is the strongest argument for reading through published interfaces rather than automating forms while EBS is still the system of record. ChatFin is built that way for exactly this reason. In ChatFinChatFin holds finance workflow separately from the read path, so exception rules and routing built now carry over rather than being rebuilt.

## Four categories, and they do different jobs

Statements about categories, not about any named product.

| Category | The job | Where it stops |
| --- | --- | --- |
| EBS native workflow and reports | Approvals, standard reporting | Built for what was anticipated at the grain it was designed for |
| Reporting and BI over an extract | Presenting a modelled dataset | Presents the model. Does not open transactions |
| RPA over forms | Repeating screen sequences | Positional, and on a customised EBS it breaks quietly |
| An agent layer | Reads, reasons about exceptions, prepares | Depends on interface access and master data quality |

The third row deserves care on EBS specifically. Forms are customised per instance and a recorded sequence is written against one configuration.
 In ChatFin
ChatFin reads through published interfaces rather than forms, which is a narrower capability with a much better failure mode.

## Five tests on your own data

All five use records you already have.
 1
### The hold population aggregated by reason

Ask for holds grouped by reason and supplier, with an owner each. EBS has the data and most tools do not aggregate it
 2
### The manual hold report

Aged, with whoever placed each one. Minutes to produce and usually finds money nobody owns
 3
### The AutoInvoice rejection backlog

Ask for it as a revenue number. A tool that treats it as a technical log is reading the wrong way
 4
### The untransferred journal check

Run over a closed period. If it finds something, your close missed it
 5
### The answer you cannot check

Ask for the ledger, balancing segment, posting status and row count behind any figure

*Five tests, an hour, all findings about your data rather than about a product.*

  04
## When the answer is not yet

Three.
**Interface access will not be granted.** Then form automation is the only route and on a customised EBS that is a liability rather than a workaround.**Supplier sites are duplicated.** Resolution accuracy is capped there and a wrong site looks like a correct match.**Custom code sits between the application and the ledger.** Scoping it comes before a pilot, not inside one.In ChatFin
ChatFin would rather say not yet than run a pilot that fails for reasons neither side controls. Ask any vendor to name the conditions under which they do badly.

## Questions Oracle EBS teams ask first

Should an EBS team wait for a cloud decision before adding AI?
Not if the layers are separated. Finance workflow, exception rules, tolerances and document extraction all survive a move because they describe how your team works rather than how the ERP stores data. Only the ledger read path is genuinely temporary, and anything built on EBS forms is written off at cutover. ChatFin holds the workflow separately from the read path for that reason.
Why is form automation riskier on EBS?
Because forms are customised per instance, so a recorded sequence is written against one configuration and a patch or a personalisation can move a field silently. The failure mode is the problem: a robot filling the wrong field posts a wrong document at volume rather than stopping. Reading through published interfaces is narrower and fails safely.
What is the most revealing EBS specific test?
Ask for the invoice hold population aggregated by reason and supplier with an owner for each group. EBS names the reason on every hold, so the data is already there, and most tools still return a flat list. A tool that cannot aggregate what EBS already gives it is not going to reason about anything harder.

How ChatFin fits an Oracle EBS stack

## Published interfaces, portable workflow, nothing written off.

ChatFin owns the exception reasoning layer. It reads EBS through published interfaces rather than forms, aggregates holds by reason and supplier, and routes each group to an owner.

Finance workflow and exception rules are held outside the ERP, so they carry over to cloud rather than being rebuilt.
