NetSuite Flux
Analysis with AI
in 2026
Highlighting the movement takes a second. Explaining it in a sentence that survives the review takes the evening.
NetSuite 2026.2 added flux analysis assistance, which highlights account movements for review. Turning a highlighted movement into finished commentary requires tracing it to the transactions responsible, separating recurring from one off items, and drafting an explanation that cites those transactions so a reviewer can verify it.
- Flux assistance detects movement. Tracing and explanation are separate and larger tasks.
- Commentary that names its transactions can be checked. Generic commentary invites a follow up.
- Recurring and one off drivers need different explanations and should be separated automatically.
- Running the first pass mid month turns surprises into corrections rather than explanations.
Flux analysis assistance in 2026.2 does the part that was already fast. Thresholds identify accounts that moved, and having that inside NetSuite rather than in a saved search plus a spreadsheet is a genuine convenience for a close team.
The evening before the management review is not spent detecting movements. It is spent opening each flagged account, reading transactions until the cause is obvious, working out whether it repeats next month, and writing a sentence that will not produce a follow up question. That is the work worth automating.
From a highlighted movement to a finished explanation
Five steps that a person currently performs on every flagged account.
The explanation is for someone else
Flux analysis ends with a finance team that understands the movement. It is only useful once a budget owner outside finance understands it too.
You can deliver better insights, better information, better guidance and support to everybody outside of finance.

Write the finished explanation for that reader, as the steps below aim to. A variance note only finance can parse has not done its job.
Deciding which movements deserve attention
Thresholds inherited years ago produce lists that are either too long to finish or too short to be safe, and nobody revisits them because the report technically works.
How it runs
Thresholds are applied on both percentage and absolute value and tuned against what genuinely needed explaining in previous periods. Accounts that move predictably for known reasons are separated from accounts whose behaviour actually changed, so the list reflects risk rather than arithmetic.
Tracing the movement to its transactions
An account moved three hundred thousand. That fact is useless until somebody identifies which entries caused it, which is a query, a scroll and a judgement, repeated on every flagged line.
How it runs
The movement is decomposed into contributing transactions ranked by size, each linked to its source document, so the two or three entries that explain most of the change are the first thing the preparer sees rather than the last thing they find.

Separating what repeats from what does not
A movement caused by a one off settlement and a movement caused by a permanent cost increase look identical on a variance report and require completely different commentary and forecasting treatment.
How it runs
Contributing transactions are classified as recurring or one off using their own history, and the classification is stated in the draft. That distinction is what management actually asks about, and it is the question generic commentary always fails to answer.
Drafting commentary that can be verified
Under deadline pressure explanations become generic. Increased spend due to higher activity levels is unfalsifiable, unhelpful and reliably produces a second question in the meeting.
How it runs
The draft names the transactions, counterparties and period effect, so the reviewer can check it rather than believe it. Finance edits language and tone and signs, which is a much smaller task than starting from an empty cell.

Saying nothing when the data does not support a sentence
An automated commentary tool that always produces confident text is worse than none, because a plausible wrong explanation gets believed and repeated upward.
How it runs
Where the driver cannot be identified from the underlying transactions, that is stated and the account is routed for human investigation. Test this deliberately during any evaluation by feeding a movement the data cannot explain and watching what the tool does.

An automated explanation that is confidently wrong is worse than an empty cell, because the empty cell would have been investigated.

Review last quarter's commentary
Count how many explanations cited specific transactions. That ratio is your baseline.
Retune the thresholds
Set them from what actually needed explaining rather than from inherited round numbers.
Automate the tracing
Decomposing each movement into ranked contributing transactions removes most of the elapsed time.
Run the first pass mid month
Material movements found early become corrections rather than explanations written under pressure.

ChatFin decomposes each material NetSuite movement into ranked contributing transactions, separates recurring drivers from one offs, and drafts the explanation citing what caused it. Where the data does not support an explanation, it says so.
The first pass runs mid month so material items surface while correction is still possible. Bring last quarter's flux pack and we will trace the same movements live.
